Actually is commonly accepted that substances as alcohol, drugs like cannabis, cocaine, heroine, etc., are very dangerous substances for people, for health. Other substances like common salt also have a bad fame. But how much is so bad common salt? How much is good sugar?
Answers to these questions are no so simple. Our cells contains salt and a chemical equilibrium between sodium and potassium, it is part of a vital process for our life. When an injured person is taken to an emergency hospital it is very common the first action includes the intravenous injection of a salt solution. Why? I don’t know, but I will try to search information about it.
But, the problem is sugar, processed sugar. Our development as society led us to drink big quantities of sugar in many foods and drinkings. Boys and girls are the main victims. Yes, victims because I think sugar is a drug worst than cocaine, cannabis, etc. And it is more addictive. It is no an odontological problem. Is our cardiovascular system which suffer the effects of big consumption of processed sugar.
Our pancreas is a gland which have an important function to control the levels of sugar circulating by our blood. Through insulin the excess of glucose is eliminated. But when we eat big quantities of sugar, pancreas work is surpassed. This is particularly true in occidental diets which include large quantities of processed sugar. As pointed before, again the problem is the excess.
